Currently seeking Chemical Operators for multiple shifts in Rock Hill, SC.
Summary/Objective

The key duties of a Chemical Operator include loading/unloading materials, monitoring reactions, and cleaning vessels. The Chemical Operator is responsible for processing raw materials info finished products based on strict, varied customer formulas. An operator also monitors process parameters, perform batch mixing, and adhere to strict safety (HazMat) and quality protocols.
Essential Functions

  1. Operate a variety of process equipment, including reaction systems, distillation systems, filters, extractors, reactors, pumps, agitators, filter presses, and centrifuges to produce, transfer, and package chemical projects in compliance with prescribed operating procedures.
  2. Measure, charge, and mix raw materials into reactors, vessels, or mixers according to detailed, client-specific batch sheets.
  3. Set up and adjust indicating and controlling devices.
  4. . Monitor panel lights, flowmeters, and gauges (temperature and pressure) and record reactions and notate any changes in chemical and physical properties or compositional changes of substances to ensure reactions stay within specific limits.
  5. Maintain log of gauge readings, shift production, and equipment malfunctions and communicate these and job status to the incoming shift.

Other Functions and Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment.
  2. Maneuver drums and other containers on pallets
  3. Troubleshoot process and/or equipment problems.
  4. Report/record mechanical/process problems.
  5. Protect the environment to prevent ground, water, and air pollution.
  6. Report all unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor and/or management.
  7. Sample, control, and maintain plant quality.
  8. Operate forklift.
  9. Complete plant data/batch sheets.
  10. Work in accordance with HSEQ best practice.
  11. Perform required housekeeping and maintain orderliness.
  12. Attend all safety meetings and complete all trainings as required and by required to date.
  13. Abide by grooming requirements so to be ready to wear all appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) as required which includes but is not limited to full-face respirators, steel-toed boots, hard hat, and safety glasses.
  14. Understand and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  15. Read and understand Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to identify hazards of handling chemicals.
  16. Other duties as assigned by supervisors and / or management.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to loud noises, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals (including high and low pH), flammable materials, high, precarious places and moving mechanical parts.  The employee will be exposed to extreme temperatures within the working environment, including outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid conditions. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fume hoods is required.  Certain procedures will require the use of enhanced personal protective equipment such as a fit tested, full-face respirator. 
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is required to sit, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must navigate stairs and/or ladders.  The employee must lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and lift and/or move greater than 55 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus and must be able to hear alarms in an emergency.  Employee must be willing and able to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses and/or goggles, steel-toe boots, and face shields.  Employee will be required to be fit-tested for full-face respirators. 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Shifts are:  8-hour, 10-hour and 12-hour.  Area of plant employee is assigned to determine shift schedule. Overtime, Call-In, and weekends as needed.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED is required; technical school or relevant chemical operator training is preferred.
  2. One year of relevant work experience in  chemical manufacturing, tolling or processing industries.  
  3. Basic computer proficiency for data entry, along with math and science aptitude.
  4. Forklift certification is frequently required along with possible HAZWOPER/HazMat training.
  5. Able to read, write, and communicate in English.
