Job Title: Laboratory Technician III
Job Description: Element Staffing is recruiting for an experienced Lab Technician for a very reputable contract testing company in SE Houston. The Lab Technician will utilize analytical techniques and methods to support the testing of crude oil and petroleum products for various projects and customer requests. The ideal candidate will have thorough experience with GC, GC/MS and/or testing of petroleum products.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical testing on Gasoline, Jet Fuel, Diesel, #6 Fuel Oil, and Crude Oil products by use of GC, GC/MS, autotitrators, wet chemical methods, physical testing, and other established procedures.
- Properly document results and assist in the development and improvement of laboratory SOPs.
- Maintain all laboratory databases with new results for record keeping and report generation.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment per the current maintenance schedule.
- Participate in new method development for new and existing products and lab procedures.
- Interact and communicate results and activities to Lab Management, Production, Operations, and Customer Service.
- Actively participate and maintain compliance with company HSE program and policies.
- Assist with raw material stocks, inventory control, and general housekeeping.
- Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
- Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
- Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
- Assist in calibrating laboratory instruments for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual #5, Safety Manual #7, and the Core Laboratories Safety and Environmental Manual, and company policies.
- Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations.
- Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs.
- Other duties as assigned by lab manager
Years of Experience: 5-8+ years
Education: AS/BS Chemistry or Natural Science or equivalent industry experience
Shift/Travel: 4on/4off – rotating 12 hour shifts
Compensation: $29 to $31, DOE
