Element Staffing is recruiting for a Laboratory/Chemical Synthesis Technician for a medical device and polymer technology company in the Houston, TX area. This position will support laboratory-based polymer synthesis operations used in advanced medical device manufacturing applications.
The Laboratory/Chemical Synthesis Technician will perform hands-on chemical synthesis activities, execute established laboratory procedures, handle chemicals and laboratory equipment, document process data, and support day-to-day laboratory operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, safe laboratory practices, and the ability to perform consistent, process-oriented lab work in a collaborative environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on chemical synthesis activities following established laboratory procedures and protocols
- Execute multi-step polymer synthesis processes and routine laboratory operations
- Handle chemicals including flammables, corrosives, solvents, and related laboratory materials in accordance with safety procedures
- Operate and maintain laboratory glassware and reaction equipment including round-bottom flasks, reactors, and related synthesis apparatus
- Prepare, clean, and organize laboratory equipment and glassware to support ongoing synthesis operations
- Accurately document laboratory activities, process steps, observations, and data using paper-based and/or electronic documentation systems
- Support process consistency and repeatability through strict adherence to SOPs and established procedures
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support process development and production activities
- Assist with troubleshooting minor laboratory and process-related issues as needed
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
- Follow laboratory safety procedures, PPE requirements, and chemical handling protocols at all times
- Support continuous improvement efforts and evolving laboratory processes within a growing organization
- Assist with additional laboratory projects and cross-functional activities as assigned
Additional Requirements:
- Hands-on laboratory experience involving chemical handling and wet chemistry techniques strongly preferred
- Experience working with chemical synthesis, polymer synthesis, materials science, or related laboratory environments preferred
- Experience handling flammable and corrosive chemicals required
- Experience working with larger laboratory glassware or reactor systems preferred
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and perform repetitive/process-oriented laboratory tasks with consistency and accuracy
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and documentation practices required
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as NMR, GPC, spectrophotometers, or related laboratory equipment preferred
- Experience working in GMP, medical device, pharmaceutical, or regulated laboratory environments preferred
- Must be comfortable working in a fully onsite laboratory environment
Years of Experience:
1–3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience preferred; experience level may vary depending on technical background and laboratory skillset
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Materials Science, Biology, Engineering, or related scientific field preferred; equivalent hands-on laboratory experience will also be considered
Shift/Travel:
Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Compensation:
$28–32/hr DOE
