Job Title: Process Control Engineer
Job Description: Element Staffing is recruiting for a Process Control Engineer for a specialty chemical company in SE Houston. The Process Control Engineer (PLC/HMI) is responsible for selection, configuration, and troubleshooting services related to control systems, including PLC’s, Safety Systems, HMI’s, data historian, and networking. Previous experience with Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs + other SCADA systems such as Siemens and/or Mitsubishi is preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities/Qualifications:
- Perform programming and troubleshooting of assigned PLCs/HMIs as needed.
- Propose modifications to PLC systems equipment that improve plant performance, safety, or reliability, and reduce costs.
- Develop scope and design of PLC system capital projects and oversee engineering, commissioning, and startup, assuring on-time completion.
- Perform regular system health monitoring checks, including PLC hardware integrity, fault LED’s, communications integrity, available memory, time sync, cabinet internals (dust removal), monitor display quality, etc.
- Develop and maintain PLC interlock lists, PLC training manuals, ladder logic explanations, and How-To documents.
- Assist units in maintenance of PLC systems including implementation of updates/patches as necessary to maintain reliability and product support.
- Monitor and address PLC alarms, propose fixes, and work with unit engineers to execute MOC or PHA action items.
- Keep up to date in training for system software updates and revisions, and revise training manuals as necessary.
- Configure and maintain the site data historian system, including adding/modifying tags and users, adding notifications, troubleshooting issues, developing logic and equations, and training new users.
- Perform regular system backups and be able to restore related files as needed.
- Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
- Train other engineers and I&E support personnel on process control strategies and logic.
- Meet with DCS Manager weekly and issue progress reports bi-weekly.
- Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.
- Maintain complete and open lines of communication with other personnel, functions, or departments to facilitate operations and interaction in the organization.
- Keep supervisor informed of status and progress, ensuring that regular and periodic communication takes place.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and keeping abreast of industry trends within the area of responsibilities.
- Maintain professional conduct, attendance, and high ethical standards in the workplace, complying with the company’s policies and procedures.
- Fulfill mandatory training requirements applicable for department and job duties as appropriate
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by supervisor or Management.
